The Gilbert Arizona Temple is the 156th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). It is located in Gilbert, Arizona.

The temple was announced on April 6, 1980, by church president Spencer W. Kimball. Ground was broken for the temple on March 13, 1982, and it was dedicated on March 2, 1984, by Gordon B. Hinckley. The temple has a total of 12,000 square feet (1,100 m2), two ordinance rooms, and two sealing rooms.

The Gilbert Arizona Temple is one of a series of special temples built by the church following the introduction of temple work for the dead. Ordinances for both the living and the dead may be performed in all LDS temples. In the Gilbert Arizona Temple, these include baptisms for the dead, endowments for the dead, and sealings of marriages and families for eternity.

The Gilbert Arizona Temple is located on a site that was once part of a farm owned by Levi N. Garr. The farm was purchased in 1978 for $1.7 million. The temple is located on the northeast corner of Greenfield and Pecos Roads in Gilbert.

The exterior of the temple is finished with white cast stone, a material composed of crushed limestone and marble dust that is used to give the appearance of carved stone. The temple has a single-spire design and is capped with a gold-leafed statue of the angel Moroni.

The grounds of the temple include two fountains, one on each side of the main entrance, and a reflection pool in front of the temple. There are also several gardens and walkways on the grounds.

The temple is open to the public for tours and services. Tours of the temple are conducted Monday through Saturday. Services include baptisms for the dead, endowments for the dead, sealings of marriages and families for eternity, and other ordinances.

Mormon church temples are places of worship for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They are considered to be the holiest sites in the Mormon faith and are used for special ceremonies and rituals.

Some of the ceremonies that take place in Mormon temples include baptisms for the dead, endowments (a ritual in which church members make promises to God), and sealings (a ritual in which couples or families are united for eternity). These ceremonies are only open to Mormons who have been through a special temple recommend interview process.

Mormon temples are typically located in areas with large Mormon populations. However, there are some exceptions, such as the Mormon temple in Jerusalem.

There are currently over 150 Mormon temples around the world.
