HD South is home to the Gilbert Museum, which is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the Gilbert Az. The museum houses a collection of artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of the local area. The building was first opened in 1913 as Gilbert Elementary School. The school remained in the building until 1977. When the elementary school moved out the local historical society took over the building in 1982. The building itself now belongs to the National Register of Historic Places. A unique honor that represents the significance of the building and the work of the organization to share the historical significance of the region. It is the only building in Gilbert that has been given this honor.
The museum is filled with artifacts that tell the story and development of the Gilbert community. The museum regularly hosts school field trips, weddings, and community celebrations. When visiting the Gilbert museum, people can learn about the city's past and its more recent explosive growth. Gilbert was initially farmland. Nicknamed "The Hay shipping capital of the World". The museum captures the story of how in the 1970s and 1980s local town leadership set the stage for the staggering population growth the city would experience in the 2000s.

The HD Gilbert heavily relies on volunteers making it a great place for families to serve within their local community. There is an admissions fee so be sure to check out the current entry rates and operating hours. In addition to regular daily programs, special events are hosted at the museum. One of the kid's favorites is the "Breakfast with Santa" that typically occurs in early December. The local business community rally's it support of the museum in the spring during an annual fundraiser.
